Access Statement

Here at Gwynfan Bungalow (a pet friendly cottage) we welcome people with disabilities and have developed the Access Statement to address some of the more common issues that disabled people face. We do feel with assistance this property is wheel chair friendly throughout.


This statement is produced as part of our commitment to meeting the needs of guests with any special access requirements.

Gwynfan Bungalow is set up a country lane just 1.5 miles from the village of Llanyre and only 3 miles from Llandrindod Wells  and offers self catering accommodation. The bungalow is 20 years old and offers cosy, yet a quiet and peaceful location to all types of holiday makers. Positioned away from the road, Gwynfan doors are of standard dimensions and rooms are modern and extremely spacious and are very well suited for wheelchair use. All internal doors are 71cm (28 inches) wide. All external doors are 78cm (31 inches) wide.


  • Llanyre is a small village served by a daily bus service and only 1.5 mile from the nearest railway station in Llandrindod Wells.
  • We are located approx 1.5 miles out of Llanyre village up a country lane. However, the village is accessible from the bungalow to users of wheelchairs and/or motorised buggies.
  • The Bell Country Inn public house and restaurant are within 1.5 miles.
  • The nearest bus stop is 1.5 miles in the village of Llanyre opposite the church.
  • The nearest railway station is Llandrindod Wells, which is approximately 3 miles away.

Arrival and Car Parking

  • Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can be sure we are here to welcome you.
  • To ensure your accommodation is ready we ask that guests normally arrive between 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm. However, we can usually accommodate a different arrival time if you arrange this in advance.
  • Parking is on a graveled and tarmac private car park in front of the main door. There is space for two cars parked within the bungalow gates and three cars parked outside the bungalow gates.
  • We are happy to offer assistance with luggage.

Main Entrance

  • Double gates, opening inwards, gives access to the tarmac parked area, which leads directly to the garage door and access to the bungalow.
  • The door is normally locked and we ask guests to lock it as they come and go.
  • Outside the front door is a light, triggered by a PIR during the hours of darkness.
  • There is one step of 16cm (6.5 inches) up to the garage door, leading into the garage which has a concrete floor. A further step of 19cm (7.5 inches) leads into the bungalow utility room which has vinyl flooring.
  • A WC is located in the corner of the garage.

Guest Accommodation

Public Areas

  • The utility then leads into the kitchen/diner rooms which have vinyl and carpet flooring. This is furnished with a fitted kitchen and table and chairs for 6 people + high chair.
  • There is a folder of guest information which contains further information about the bungalow and details of emergency contacts including doctors, hospitals, places of interest, etc.
  • There are facilities to make tea, coffee (milk in fridge). A guest tray is located on kitchen table.
  • Available at no extra charge, are a sewing kit, first aid materials and an iron and ironing board.
  • From there leads to the front hall which is fully carpeted. Here you will find the 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin) and lounge area which are fully carpeted. The large lounge has fully reclining leather sofas,  seating for 6 people, an open fireplace, 1st logs FOC and thereafter further logs may be found in the garage.
  • A hall cupboard is laden with tourist information leaflets and books and the cupboard itself has children books and games. A collection of DVDs are located in the lounge.
  • The bathroom is also located via the front hall, flooring is vinyl.
  • The walk-in shower has a lip 33cm (13 inches) high to step over. It is 1000mm square and fitted with a bi-fold door.
  • The full sized bath has 2 handles.
  • The house is centrally heated throughout, but thermostatically controlled radiators allow temperatures to be adjusted in each room to suit individual requirements.
  • The front door which leads out into the patio area has a 18cm (7 inches) step, then a further 16cm (6.5 inches) step-up into the hall.


  • Our beds are made with synthetic duvets and pillows and 100% cotton sheets. They are also equipped with anti-allergenic pillows and mattress/pillow protectors.
  • There are built in wardrobes, equipped with shelf and basket storage in addition to hanging space, a dressing table and 2 bedside cabinets in each room.
  • We also provide a hair dryer.
  • All bedrooms are very spacious with access from both sides of the beds.
  • Both double beds are 4ft 6”. The twin beds are two 3 ft single beds.  A baby’s cot is located within large airing cupboard.


  • Guests are very welcome to enjoy the garden, a paved path leads right around the bungalow giving access to both the garden and 3 lawn areas.
  • The front patio area outside the front door has a table, chairs and a picnic bench and looks out over fields and countryside with views as far as the Brecon Beacons.
  • The hot tub and gazebo area is accessed via steps and therefore is NOT accessible to wheelchairs.

Additional Information

  • Smoking is not permitted within the bungalow itself, but guests can smoke outside, ashtrays can be found in the utility drawer.
